CHAPTER 114: Shan Pan's Memories [4]

Wan Shiying stared at the situation inside and picked up the walkie-talkie to command, "Find a small spot to observe the suspect's position."

"Understood." the soldier's voice rang out as he maneuvered the small drone and located the suspect's position, capturing a clear image of his face.

"He's holding a knife." Shan Pan's mother widened her eyes and exclaimed, "The blade is pointed towards Pan Pan. What does he want to do?"

As Shan Pan's mother expressed her fear, the man suddenly turned his head and looked in the direction of the small drone. It seemed like he had noticed them, staring directly into the camera, with a hint of madness in his smile.

Shan Pan's father panicked and immediately grabbed Wan Shiying's hand. "Let me go in, let me go in. Let me protect our Pan Pan."

Wan Shiying furrowed her brows and nodded. "Put on the earpiece. We will guide you from here. Don't act recklessly. Listen to our commands."

"Okay." Shan Pan's father quickly nodded and put on the earpiece Wan Baiyun handed him. He approached the entrance of the warehouse.

He shouted loudly, "I'm coming in."

The man furrowed his brows, placing the knife against Shan Pan's neck, and coldly said into the intercom, "Come in."

Shan Pan's father pushed open the door and entered, listening to Wan Shiying's commands through the earpiece. He stopped at a safe distance from the man.

Wan Baiyun spoke up, "Hold him back for now."

Shan Pan's father immediately spoke, "Aren't you looking for me? I'm here now. Let go of my daughter. Whatever you want to do, do it to me."

Wan Shiying listened to Shan Pan's father and exchanged a glance with a nearby soldier. He immediately understood her meaning and arranged for the small drone to deploy its shooting weapon. He controlled it to fly into the warehouse.

The man smiled when after listening to Shan Pan's father, "Since the audience has arrived, I guess it's time for me to start my performance. I assume there are police outside by now. I don't have much time left."

"What do you mean?" Shan Pan's father frowned. "Aren't you after me? I'm already here. Release my daughter quickly."

At that moment, Wan Baiyun had just cut the rope with the glass and looked at Shan Pan's father, who was filled with worry. She then glanced at Shan Pan, who was crying nearby, and a hint of envy flashed in her eyes.

After listening to Shan Pan's father, the man chuckled lightly, gradually increasing his laughter. "Hahaha, who said I called you here to kill you? I called you here to let you witness your daughter's death at my hands."

"You should  also feel the same pain as me. My daughter died in my arms, just like that. I watched her heart monitor flatline and felt her body slowly turn cold. You should feel what I felt."

Shan Pan's father, feeling both anxious and worried, watched as the man raised his hand and lifted the knife. Without hesitation, he dropped to his knees, "I beg you, I beg you not to harm my daughter. She knows nothing, she's innocent."

"Does that make my daughter any less innocent? My daughter was killed by the heartless doctors in your hospital. You people cover up for each other, and even the court protects you!"

The man expressed his frustration, blaming the doctors for his daughter's death, unable to accept the reality.

Shan Pan's father felt helpless in the face of the man's paranoia. He knew there was no way to reason with him, especially since mentioning the hospital's investigation results would only further enrage him.

He could only rely on Wan Shiying outside, praying that she could find the best shooting angle quickly. The man coldly stared at Shan Pan's father kneeling on the ground, filled with hatred, and raised the knife in his hand, aiming it at Shan Pan's chest, ready to strike.

Wan Baiyun widened her eyes, unable to free herself from the ropes on her feet. She quickly got up from the ground, using her agility to push the man forcefully.

Caught off guard, the man tumbled to the ground, and Wan Baiyun fell down as well.

Shan Pan's father quickly ran toward the location where Shan Pan was.

Outside, Wan Shiying, seeing the situation, snatched the controller from the soldier's hand and swiftly aimed at the man's position on the ground.

Just as she aimed, the man quickly got up, raising the knife in his hand, trying to seize the last opportunity.

Just as the knife was about to plunge into Shan Pan's chest, a figure appeared in front of her, tightly embracing her.

Shan Pan seemed to hear the sound of the knife piercing a body. One stab, two stabs, three stabs. The man had gone mad, completely disregarding who was in front of him. He crazily pulled out the knife and stabbed again.

Wan Shiying widened her eyes and quickly pressed the shooting button. Blood splattered from the man's head, and he fell to the ground, lifeless in an instant.

Shan Pan looked at her father, who was running towards her, feeling the temperature of Wan Baiyun's body against her and her gradually weakening grip. She shouted loudly, "Ambulance, ambulance!"

Shan Pan's father swiftly took off his own clothes and pressed them against Wan Baiyun's wound to stop the bleeding.

The soldiers outside also rushed in and untied the ropes binding Shan Pan and Wan Baiyun.

Shan Pan, who had regained her freedom, couldn't even be happy. She looked at Wan Baiyun, whose complexion was pale and devoid of any color, with tears streaming down her face in worry.

She lifted Wan Baiyun's face, continuously calling out her name, "Don't sleep, don't sleep, sob sob sob, Sister Wan don't die."

Wan Baiyun's gaze had become unfocused. She felt the heat slowly leaving her body, as if she was dying. She was well aware of this fact.

Shan Pan saw Wan Baiyun suddenly open her mouth silently, and she leaned in to listen but heard nothing.

Just as she was about to ask her what she wanted to say, Wan Baiyun closed her eyes and fell into shock.

The bright red liquid stained Shan Pan's father's clothes completely, and Shan Pan couldn't believe that so much blood was flowing out of one person's body.

She could only beg her father over and over again to save Wan Baiyun.

Soon, the ambulance arrived, and Shan Pan's father, along with Wan Baiyun, got on the ambulance.

As soon as they arrived at the hospital, Shan Pan's father quickly changed his clothes and went straight into the operating room.

Behind them, Shan Pan and her mother followed in a military vehicle with Wan Shiying.

The three of them waited outside the operating room. Shan Pan's mother held Shan Pan, who was crying uncontrollably, and tried to comfort her. Wan Shiying furrowed her brow and stared at the door of the operating room in silence.

"I'm sorry, Grandma Wan." Shan Pan cried, unable to complete a full sentence. "It's all my fault, all of it."

Wan Shiying turned her head and looked at her, shaking her head. "It's not your fault. That man was too extreme, he had mental problems."

"As for your sister Yunyun, she truly fulfilled her duty as a soldier today, selflessly saving you. Our Wan family should have this sense of sacrifice and mission."

Shan Pan's mother frowned after listening, finding it hard to believe the look in Wan Shiying's eyes.

Her granddaughter lay in the emergency room, teetering between life and death, and Wan Shiying still cared about the family's sense of duty. It was simply unbelievable.

Unfortunately, young Shan Pan couldn't understand Wan Shiying's words. She thought that Wan Shiying was comforting herself and sobbed a few times before turning her head and burying herself in her mother's embrace.

The surgery lasted until the early hours of the second day, at 5 o'clock in the morning.

The three of them watched as nurses came in and out, carrying many bags of blood. Wan Shiying also signed several critical condition notices, indicating the danger Wan Baiyun had faced.

"The surgery was successful." Shan Pan's father, exhausted both physically and mentally, took off his mask, revealing a considerable amount of stubble. "The bleeding has stopped successfully. It's also a stroke of luck. The knife was only a centimeter away from her heart. If it had been slightly off, even a deity couldn't have saved her."

"Where is sister now?" Shan Pan anxiously wanted to see her.

Shan Pan's father explained, "She has been transferred to the intensive care unit. She's on the recovery fluid. It will take about three days for the wound to heal, and then she will be transferred to a regular ward."

.....

Three days later, Wan Baiyun woke up from her coma, staring fixedly at the ceiling of the hospital room, without saying a word.

Shan Pan saw that Wan Baiyun had awakened and quickly rushed over, grabbing her hand. "Sister, you're awake! Are you okay? Are you still in pain?"

Wan Baiyun furrowed her brow and turned to look at Shan Pan in silence. There was a tinge of sorrow in her expression. After a moment, she shook her head and hoarsely said, "I'm not in pain. I'm fine. Are you okay? Did you get hurt?"

"No, I'm not hurt." Shan Pan couldn't understand the emotions in Wan Baiyun's eyes, so she could only shake her head and gently rub her face against Wan Baiyun's hand. "Sister, thank you for saving me."

"Mm," Wan Baiyun shook her head. "There's nothing to thank me for. I also had my own selfish motives."

"Selfish motives?" Shan Pan furrowed her brow, about to ask what she meant, when the door of the hospital room was pushed open, and Wan Shiying walked in.

Wan Baiyun's expression darkened when she saw her. She closed her eyes and didn't want to talk to her.

Wan Shiying wasn't surprised by her reaction. She walked near her hospital bed, looked down at her, and said, "You did well this time. You finally showed the semblance of a soldier. All those years of military education were not in vain."

Wan Baiyun turned to look at her, her tone somewhat incredulous. "Aren't you afraid that I would die?"

Wan Shiying shook her head. "It's normal for soldiers to bleed and sacrifice themselves to save others. Your mother also sacrificed herself to save others. I'm proud of her."

Wan Baiyun pulled at the corners of her mouth. "Someone like you is only fit to live your whole life with your army. You don't have a heart or love. Family to you is merely a tool to gain honor."

"Your sense of military honor is more important to you than anything else."

Wan Shiying furrowed her brow but didn't refute Wan Baiyun's words. She stared at her for a few seconds before saying, "When you were unconscious, you underwent differentiation and successfully became an Alpha. I've also inquired about it. You'll probably be discharged tomorrow. After resting at home for a while, you'll attend military training and apply to the Military Academy."

Wan Baiyun closed her eyes. "I won't go. I want to study design."

"That's not up to you." Wan Shiying glanced at her coldly. "Even if you refuse, I will have people forcefully send you there."

After saying that, Wan Shiying was about to leave.

Wan Baiyun opened her eyes, not knowing if she was speaking to Wan Shiying or to Shan Pan. "Saving Shan Pan had nothing to do with any sense of military honor. I don't even have that so-called thing."
