CHAPTER 113: Shan Pan's Memories [3]

Shan Pan could only hear Wan Baiyun let out a painful groan, and then she saw her contorting in agony, her face turning red.

"Don't hurt her, please, don't hurt her." Shan Pan's tears streamed down her face as she watched Wan Baiyun's suffering. Her heart clenched with pain. "Don't harm her."

Upon hearing Shan Pan's worried pleas, the man coldly raised an eyebrow and reached out to grab Wan Baiyun's leg, forcefully dragging her back to her original position.

After dragging her back, he kicked Wan Baiyun again with force. His eyes were filled with disdain, as if he were looking at an insignificant ant. "Little girl, you both have been naughty..."

Wan Baiyun's body arched even more, but this time, she endured the pain in silence.

Shan Pan knew she was in a lot of pain. Tears continued to fall as she pleaded, "Don't hurt her, hurt me instead. Hurt me instead."

"Hurt you?" the man's lips curved beneath his mask, his eyes filled with hatred and indifference. "I will, but not now."

After speaking, the man activated his optical brain and took a picture of Shan Pan and Wan Baiyun.

Once he had taken the photo, he looked at the two of them and warned, "I advise you two to behave, or I can't guarantee what I'll do to you..."

Shan Pan nodded quickly, her face filled with fear, as she watched his terrifying figure walk away.

"Are you okay, sister? Are you okay?" Once she was sure the man had left, Shan Pan crawled over to Wan Baiyun's side, calling out to her anxiously.

Wan Baiyun took a deep breath, coughing painfully a few times before opening her eyes. She reassured Shan Pan, "I'm fine. I've learned how to take a beating over the years. When he kicked me, I avoided vital areas, so don't worry."

Shan Pan looked at Wan Baiyun, her bloodied face and pale appearance on the ground, and couldn't fully believe her words no matter what.

Wan Baiyun opened her eyes and, instead of getting up from the ground, she opened her blood-soaked palm and gripped the shards of glass between her fingertips. Slowly, she began cutting the rope on her wrist.

Shan Pan watched Wan Baiyun's actions as before, while also eavesdropping on any sounds outside.

Meanwhile, the Shan family received the photos of the two being kidnapped, causing panic among the family members.

Upon learning that Wan Baiyun had also been abducted, the Shan family contacted Wan Shiying.

As soon as Wan Shiying learned of the situation, she immediately reported it to the police and used the resources of the military district to investigate the source of the photos.

Based on the location and surveillance footage from where the photos originated, they eventually narrowed down the suspect to a 45-year-old man.

Wan Shiying investigated his family background and social connections, discovering that he had lost his wife early on and had a daughter around the same age as Shan Pan.

Two years ago, his daughter fell ill and was admitted to the Shan family's hospital for treatment. However, just a month ago, his daughter passed away due to a failed surgery.

After her death, he stubbornly believed that it was the doctor's mistake that led to his daughter's death and caused a commotion with relevant institutions.

However, after an investigation, the institutions confirmed that his daughter had indeed had a low success rate for the surgery, and the surgical monitoring videos showed that the doctor followed the procedures without any mistakes. Therefore, they did not accept his complaints.

Understanding the cause and effect, the Shan family realized that this kidnapping was specifically targeted at them, and it was a full-fledged act of revenge.

Wan Baiyun happened to be with Shan Pan and became an unfortunate victim by association.

Looking at the photos sent by this person, Shan Pan hadn't been harmed for the time being, but Wan Baiyun had blood all over her face, lying in a miserable state on the side, and they didn't know her condition.

The Shan family felt guilty towards Wan Shiying, but they hadn't received any news from Shan Pan until now, and they didn't have time to update Wan Shiying. Their sole focus was on the safety of their daughter.

In comparison to the worries of the Shan family, Wan Shiying remained calm. After analyzing the background lighting in the photos, she calmly instructed her subordinates to investigate the places where Shan Pan and Wan Baiyun were most likely being held based on the man's social background and places he had visited recently.

Seeing Wan Shiying's seemingly unconcerned demeanor, Shan Cong was a little puzzled. Now 17 years old, Shan Cong had successfully transformed into an Alpha last year. Unable to hold back, she finally asked, "Grandma Wan, why do you seem completely unconcerned about Wan Baiyun?"

Wan Shiying smiled, her lips curving. "Since Wan Baiyun was five years old, I have continuously arranged for her to participate in military training. The premise of the training is to learn how to take a beating. She can handle a little hardship."

"Besides, this person came for your family. At most, she will endure some physical pain. In the early stages, let this man vent his frustrations a bit, and her life should be preserved."

Shan Cong looked at Wan Shiying's calm smile and couldn't help but feel a chill in her heart. Although what she said made sense, seeing her granddaughter covered in blood on the ground without any worries, was this the reaction a family member should have?

Wan Shiying didn't mind Shan Cong's scrutinizing gaze. She lowered her head and checked her optical brain, discovering that her subordinates had already deduced the location where Wan Baiyun and Shan Pan were being held.

She turned to Shan Pan's father and said, "My people have located the positions of the two of them. They are in an old warehouse. We are currently arranging a rescue operation. Will you come along?"

"Yes, yes." Shan Pan's parents nodded quickly. "This person came for us, which is why they took Pan Pan. He definitely has weapons, and if Pan Pan gets hurt, it would be disastrous. We must keep an eye on the situation."

"Very well, we'll go together." Wan Shiying nodded. When the military vehicles arrived, she led the two of them to the vicinity of the abandoned warehouse.

"Send a group of people to scout the area near the warehouse first, to locate the suspect." Wan Shiying waved her hand and gave the order.

The soldiers under her command immediately sprung into action, like ants in the dark, swiftly maneuvering through the terrain to conduct covert reconnaissance near the warehouse.

Soon, a soldier sent a message, "Commander, the suspect is right beside the two children."

Inside the warehouse, the man removed the mask from his face, revealing his pale, lifeless complexion as he stared at Shan Pan. Finally, he spoke about the reason for kidnapping them, "Do you know why I kidnapped you?"

Shan Pan's round face wrinkled with fear as she shook her head.

The man reached out and gripped Shan Pan's face, his gaze seemingly looking in another direction. "You're the same age as my daughter. If she were still alive, she would be happily going to school like you."

Wan Baiyun furrowed her brows and pursed her lips as she asked, "How did your daughter die?"

"How did she die?" The man's expression turned distant, and his eyes instantly filled with hatred. "Of course, she was killed by the heartless doctor from your family!"

With a sudden force, he squeezed Shan Pan's chin tightly. Shan Pan, in pain, quickly filled her eye sockets with tears. The pain was so intense that it felt as if her chin didn't even belong to her anymore.

Wan Baiyun, seeing this, quickly interjected, "You know that it was another doctor who caused the death of your daughter, so what does it have to do with Shan Pan? Release her now!"

"Has nothing to do with her?" The man grew furious. He pushed Shan Pan away and squatted down, grabbing Wan Baiyun by her collar, lifting her up.

His eyes locked onto hers intensely. "My daughter was killed in the Shan family's hospital. You say it has nothing to do with her? Then who is responsible?"

Wan Baiyun frowned as she looked into his bloodshot eyes, maintaining her composure. "Find the specific doctor who caused your daughter's death and confront them. Why involve Shan Pan? She didn't perform the surgery on your daughter."

The man's hatred deepened, his eyes filled with rage. "The Shan family protected that doctor. They claimed her surgery was flawless, but my daughter died on their operating table!"

"It was their heartless doctors who killed her. It was them who killed her. I want the Shan family to experience the pain of losing a daughter. I want their daughter to pay for mine!"

Wan Baiyun realized that this man had become mentally unstable due to the loss of his daughter. He was consumed by anger and madness. She furrowed her brows, looking into his eyes, and said, "You've gone mad."

"I am mad!" The man's bloodshot eyes widened, filled with madness. "Since my daughter died in the hospital, I haven't been sane. Today, I will make the Shan family pay for their cover-up."

After saying that, the man glanced towards the entrance and picked up the nearby intercom, flipping the switch. "I know you've already arrived. I'm afraid the police have surrounded the warehouse outside. I advise you not to act recklessly. Let the Shan family members come in, or I'll harm your daughter's face. She's so fair-skinned and beautiful. It would be a shame if she gets disfigured, wouldn't it?

After hearing the sound, Wan Shiying was somewhat surprised. She was about to ask when she heard a voice from the intercom: "Commander, the suspect has placed a speaker at the warehouse entrance. It seems like he had already anticipated our arrival. He has also sealed off all the windows, so we can't see what's inside."

"What about the roof?" Wan Shiying thought to herself that the warehouse was already in a dilapidated state. "Immediately arrange a small drone to inspect the roof of the warehouse."

"Understood." a soldier immediately operated a bee-sized drone and began scanning the warehouse roof.

"There is a hole in the warehouse roof," the soldier's voice rang out with excitement. "He didn't have time to seal it."

"Alright." Wan Shiying nodded. "Send the drone inside, I'll take over the drone's feed here."

"Copy that." the soldier's voice responded, and he immediately maneuvered the drone to fly into the warehouse.

Shan Pan's parents gathered in front of the display screen, watching as the screen transitioned from bright to pitch black and then dim. As the camera focused, they could see Wan Baiyun lying on the ground with Shan Pan crying beside her.

"Oh, my Pan Pan." Shan Pan's mother covered her mouth and couldn't help but cry. "She has never experienced something like this before. She must be terrified."

Shan Pan's father was equally worried. He carefully observed Shan Pan through the camera and realized she was just crying, seemingly unharmed. This brought him some relief.
