CHAPTER 17

Tang Yu could clearly perceive that they were not the only ones running in the darkness. The players lying in ambush here all shared the same idea—to catch up with the Zombie King.

They bypassed the horde of zombies and hurried towards the city center from behind the office building. However, before reaching the central square, they stopped in their tracks.

Four or five people were already standing in the central square. Tang Yu held onto Jin Ye and Xiaoli, swiftly hiding behind a statue in the shadows.

Under the moonlight, they could vaguely make out the layout of the central square. In the center stood a massive statue of a goddess, and at this moment, the four or five people were standing beneath it.

Furthermore, there were around ten other two-meter-tall bronze sculptures spread across the wide square. In the dim moonlight, these dark figures resembled unknown monsters.

Behind the statue of the goddess was a five-story Western-style church. The remaining stained glass windows in the church shimmered with vibrant colors under the faint moonlight.

Tang Yu looked up at the statue of the goddess, but due to the backlighting, she could only see its silhouette. Its enormous figure loomed high above, looking down on everything in the square with an oppressive aura.

This oppressive feeling was somewhat unusual. Tang Yu squinted her eyes and carefully observed, noticing a distinct darker shadow on the raised arm of the statue.

'Oh no.' Just as this thought crossed Tang Yu's mind, the shadow leaped down in an instant, swiftly killing two players directly below.

After the two-minute time limit passed, the Zombie King's body had returned to its normal size, and its physical strength had significantly weakened. However, catching the two players off guard and killing them seemed to be an easy task for it.

The remaining three players reacted swiftly and immediately fought against the Zombie King.

But the Zombie King leaped once again and ran into the church behind it.

Other players who arrived one after another also witnessed this scene. Without any verbal communication, they rushed into the church, understanding the unspoken agreement.

Tang Yu and her companions hid in the darkness, silently observing everything. Song Lengzhu had mentioned that this mutated Zombie King wouldn't escape but only attack. In other words, it wasn't hiding, it was luring its enemies deeper.

When no more players appeared, Tang Yu dragged her small group closer to the church. She had just noticed that around thirty players had caught up, mostly in small teams of twos or threes.

Their best survival strategy was to hide in the shadows and shoot from there. After all, they didn't possess the direct combat strength of Shen Xu and Brother Hu, but that's how they managed to survive until now.

Indeed, the truth lies in being tough.

Tang Yu decided to face it head-on. They sneaked along the base of the church wall, peering into the sanctuary through the shattered stained glass.

The neatly arranged chairs in the church had been destroyed, and several teams of players had gathered in the center, while others had ascended to the second floor using the stairs on either side.

The situation had reversed now, with players in the light and the Zombie King in the shadows.

Suddenly, without any warning, a dozen or so zombies lunged out from the dark corners of the church. These zombies were agile in their movements, swiftly crossing the chairs. With a roar, they opened their mouths and bit.

The unexpected attack caused several players to be overwhelmed, instantly assimilated into new zombies.

Tang Yu was astonished. These zombies had clearly been lurking in the darkness for a while. Was this also a result of the Zombie King's control? Perhaps due to its unique characteristics, it knew well how to deploy its troops.

Some players, realizing the unfavorable situation, hastily rushed towards the exit of the church. Tang Yu stuck her head out and let out a roar, instantly frightening the players back.

"There are zombies outside too!" The player cried out in fear. "The zombie army must be coming. What should we do? We're surrounded!"

"Stop messing around, be careful not to get shot in the head." Jin Ye said helplessly as she pulled Tang Yu back.
