CHAPTER 21

"Go to the bottom floor quickly, they might still be alive." Song Lengzhu gave the order. Her teammates fired two shots towards Jin Ye and Xiaoli, who were still hanging on the outer wall, and then followed Song Lengzhu rushing to the first floor.

At the moment the opponent fired, Jin Ye shielded Xiaoli with her body. After being shot, the two couldn't hold onto the outer wall and fell straight down.

She tightly held the petite Xiaoli in her arms, with her back facing the ground upon landing, successfully blocking both shots by herself.

Fortunately, they had chosen a good position and only fell onto the dome of the church. The two-story height didn't result in their deaths, but Jin Ye didn't move after landing.

Xiaoli quickly got up and hurriedly checked Jin Ye's condition. The bullets hit Jin Ye's spine, leaving two bullet holes on her tactical vest, which looked quite alarming.

Xiaoli panicked instantly, continuously calling out Jin Ye's name. After a while, Jin Ye coughed, signaling a response.

Fortunately, the bullets seemed to have missed slightly, sparing Jin Ye's life. With tears in her eyes, Xiaoli helped Jin Ye up and ran towards the other side of the dome.

They hadn't died, so the points of those players wouldn't change. Once the players noticed, they would surely come up to finish the job. Xiaoli couldn't worry about Tang Yu for now. The urgent task was to save Jin Ye.

Unfortunately, Tang Yu didn't have such good luck. Her falling position was unfavorable, and with the Zombie King's interference, she let go and fell straight onto the square.

The sense of weightlessness during the fall triggered her hunter instincts. Tang Yu instinctively turned her body in mid-air, pressing the Zombie King, which still had a grip on her, down below.

Almost at the same time as completing this action, they crashed to the ground with a loud thud.

The tremendous impact shook Tang Yu's internal organs, causing numbness in her limbs. She struggled to sit up, her mind in chaos.

The Zombie King below had its skull shattered from the fall, but its nails were still firmly embedded in Tang Yu's arm. Thanks to its sturdy body acting as a cushion, Tang Yu wasn't crushed to death.

However, Tang Yu's whole body was in pain. It seemed that Song Lengzhu's shots hit her. She didn't have time to examine where she was hit. As long as it wasn't a critical area, her body could still move.

She immediately pulled out the Zombie King's claws, her consciousness muddled as she ran towards the statue of the goddess. Unaware, the mycelium that had drilled out of the Zombie King's chest cavity missed its target.

Tang Yu shook her head, supporting herself against the statue of the goddess as she vomited.

Something was wrong, something was definitely wrong.

The game panel suddenly emitted crackling electric sounds, followed by a clear "ding" a moment later.

Tang Yu didn't have the mental capacity to check it. The place where the Zombie King had grabbed her emitted an itching sensation as if thousands of ants were gnawing at it.

Such a sensitive perception shouldn't occur on a zombie. Tang Yu couldn't help but scratch the wound, causing a sharp pain.

"There!" Someone shouted at the entrance of the church.

No way, Tang Yu felt like crying but had no tears. Why did she have to face relentless pursuit?

She stumbled and maneuvered around the statue of the goddess, hiding behind the sculpture on the side. The sculpture was as wide as five people holding each other, effectively blocking Tang Yu's figure.

Learning from the previous encounter at the camp, Tang Yu knew she couldn't escape Song Lengzhu's pursuit. She steadied her mind, gripping her knife horizontally in front of her chest, determined to fight to the end.

Song Lengzhu's teammates had already scattered, seemingly intending to surround Tang Yu. However, Song Lengzhu herself didn't rush into action. Instead, she squatted down next to the Zombie King's corpse and examined it.

Using a slender piece of broken stone, she picked out a moss-like sticky fungus from the surface of the Zombie King's chest. The plant was surrounded by yellow mycelium. With the Zombie King's death, the mycelium had gathered into a mass, losing its vitality and becoming lifeless.

She had been shooting at the Zombie King's chest all along to kill this thing first. If the main body of the fungus found a new host before the host died, then the mission of killing the Zombie King would only be half complete.

However, the transfer of the fungus required time, and the fall from the building happened suddenly. This thing had died now, obviously failing to successfully transfer.

"What a pity." murmured Song Lengzhu. Her game panel didn't receive any point notifications, which meant the game didn't recognize her as the one who killed the Zombie King.

She looked up in the direction where Tang Yu was hiding, her eyes dim and unclear. This little zombie had appeared in front of her several times and escaped each time. She had never encountered such a troublesome situation before.

Song Lengzhu's desire to kill Tang Yu grew even stronger, but at this moment, she wanted to capture it alive more than killing it.

She wanted to figure out how such a thing appeared in the game.

Her teammates received her instructions and dispersed, searching the sculptures on the square.
