CHAPTER 10
Tang Yu's restlessness weighed heavily on her heart as she tightly gripped her knife.
Song Lengzhu must have discovered her, otherwise, she wouldn't keep rhythmically tapping on the wall, as if conveying the message, "I know you're here." For the person in hiding, it was a form of mental torment.
But Tang Yu didn't move. She wanted to see what tricks this person was playing.
Both sides stood their ground, and finally, Song Lengzhu crossed the broken wall, stepping on the rubble and getting closer.
To Tang Yu's surprise, Song Lengzhu didn't immediately shoot, which gave Tang Yu some confidence.
This woman was definitely interested in mutant zombies and didn't want to be caught by Shen Xu, so she didn't reveal her position.
In that case, Tang Yu still had a chance of winning as long as she wasn't surrounded. She had some experience in escaping from Song Lengzhu, and it wasn't her first time.
Tang Yu glanced at Jin Ye, who was crouching beside her. Their eyes met, and it seemed like Jin Ye was asking what to do next.
She withdrew her gaze and looked outside through the cracks in the wooden shelf. Song Lengzhu had stopped about two meters away from her.
At this distance, even swinging her knife might not reach.
"Don't hide anymore, come out." Song Lengzhu said, her voice low and without much fluctuation.
Tang Yu rolled her eyes in her mind. Should she go out and meet her death?
She didn't move.
Song Lengzhu felt somewhat helpless when she saw that the other party was still pretending to be dead. She had activated her keen sense of smell earlier and knew that Tang Yu was hiding here. Tang Yu had the scent of lemon shower gel on her, but it couldn't cover up the faint smell of rotten oranges.
What surprised her was how these two zombies could remain so calm. If they were ordinary zombies, they would have already pounced on a living person.
Even if it were a living player, they would suddenly attack and ambush her.
The more unusual it was, the more it piqued Song Lengzhu's curiosity. She took a step forward, getting closer to the pile of wooden shelves, close enough to reach out and touch the broken structure.
It was a perfect opportunity. Tang Yu felt a surge of joy in her heart as she jumped up, pushing aside the wooden shelves in front of her and swinging her knife.
However, the other party seemed to have anticipated it. They dodged to the side, grabbed Tang Yu's wrist holding the knife, and twisted behind her while kicking towards Tang Yu's knee pit.
A skillful move. Tang Yu realized that this person was trying to lure her into action.
Tang Yu took advantage of the situation and knelt down, avoiding the kick. Then, she swiftly turned around, twisted her body, and opened her mouth, biting towards Song Lengzhu's wrist.
During this moment, Jin Ye also lunged forward, baring her teeth. The gun she had picked up was resting on her back, unused, as it would attract attention from guards.
If she got bitten, it would be game over for Song Lengzhu. Reluctantly, she released her grip and took a step back.
Tang Yu and Jin Ye exchanged a glance and took advantage of the opportunity to turn around and run. Running was the best strategy in this situation.
But just as Tang Yu lifted her foot, her collar was grabbed from behind. Tang Yu couldn't help but cry and laugh at the same time. Song Lengzhu's movements were lightning-fast, indicating that she had already enhanced her body with points.
Unable to escape by running and unable to defeat her in a fight, it seemed like the other party wasn't in a hurry to kill her either. Tang Yu watched Jin Ye's figure running away and couldn't help but complain, "What do you want from me?"
Song Lengzhu grabbed Tang Yu's clothes and tilted her head, making a puzzled sound. What was this zombie babbling about?
Although she couldn't understand, Song Lengzhu understood Tang Yu's expression.
Tang Yu stared with her watery eyes, turned her head, and looked at Song Lengzhu with a pleading expression. If being tough didn't work, then she would try acting pitiful. She glanced downward, forming a tearful expression.
Tang Yu had already cleaned up after taking a shower, and despite her bruised face, one could see the prominent black lines on her neck. Overall, she didn't look frightening, rather like an ordinary girl next door.
But Song Lengzhu couldn't help but frown, "How strange."
A zombie making human-like expressions seemed odd to her.
"You're the strange one!" Tang Yu gritted her teeth in anger. "You're the weirdest person in the whole world!"
She no longer pretended to be weak. She unzipped her combat suit and performed a transformation, shedding it like a cicada's shell, revealing only a black high-necked vest. Then, she turned around and made a feigned slash.
She finally understood that Song Lengzhu wouldn't yield to either soft or tough approaches.
Song Lengzhu discarded the clothes in her hand and took a few steps back. The reason she hadn't fired her gun yet was to test the abilities of this mutated zombie. However, after several attempts, she realized that apart from behaving more human-like, the other party didn't possess any special abilities.
She thought that this kind of zombie wasn't a major boss, and there shouldn't be much force backing it. In theory, the reward for killing it wouldn't be too high. Losing interest, she decided to pull out her gun and deal with this soldier who, in her eyes, had lost its value as a subject of exploration.
The first shot aimed straight for Tang Yu's head.
Tang Yu was startled, breaking out in a cold sweat. Instinctively, she raised her knife to block it in front of her face.
In the instant she raised her knife, Tang Yu thought, 'It's over. There's no way to avoid it at such a close range. I'm definitely going to be sprayed with blood. This woman is so ruthless.'
However, unexpectedly, the Jing Long in her hand blocked the bullet.
Both of them were shocked by this turn of events.
Song Lengzhu's gun was not an ordinary gun. It was a rare weapon she had carefully chosen. The bullet had extremely high hardness and could penetrate iron armor without any problem. It could fire hundreds of rounds at once and had a small size for easy carrying. The automatic reloading time was also only three seconds, making it an extraordinary weapon capable of sustained output.
In her hands, this gun wouldn't use more than twenty bullets at most.
But now, the bullet couldn't penetrate the blade of the Jing Long.
Instinctively, both of them looked at the blade, but there was no bullet hole or any trace left behind.
Almost at the same time, their eyes showed a pleasant surprise.
Tang Yu sighed, "So it's such a good thing. I've struck gold."
Song Lengzhu thought, 'It's such a good thing. I want it.'
Thus, the second round of gunfire immediately came.
With the experience from the first time, Tang Yu quickly flipped over a broken wall, narrowly avoiding the attack.
Someone shouted and ran towards this direction. The sound of gunfire alarmed the guards, and a large group of people were rushing over.
Tang Yu saw a familiar figure appear at the corner. It was Team Leader Liang, whom she had met before. She made up her mind and rushed straight towards him, intending to hold a little leader hostage and buy herself some time to escape.
Team Leader Liang instinctively dodged to the side, but Tang Yu was incredibly fast. Before he could make a counterattack, Tang Yu's nails had already embedded into his throat. If she went a bit deeper, he would meet his demise.
"Don't move!" After taking a hostage, Tang Yu snatched the gun from Team Leader Liang's hand and shouted.
The remaining people looked at each other. They couldn't understand Tang Yu's words, but they could sense the threat in her actions.
Song Lengzhu also put down her gun. With her skills, she could kill Team Leader Liang first and then Tang Yu, but killing someone in Shen Xu's camp would directly lead to an open confrontation.
It's not worth it to make enemies for Tang Yu, Song Lengzhu thought.
Tang Yu pushed Team Leader Liang back while other guards from the camp surrounded her. She knew that this kind of threat could only last for a while. If it lasted too long, she would inevitably reveal a flaw.
Why did they have to act righteous and save people? This situation is not easy to handle. Tang Yu felt some regret. Jin Ye, that girl, also abandoned her and ran away.
Just as this thought arose, the guard in front of her fell to the ground with a gunshot.
Immediately after, bullets from the submachine gun rained down, taking out seven or eight guards in front of Tang Yu.
These players whose lives were taken lost their qualification in the game, their bodies falling to the ground. Since they hadn't directly encountered the zombies, they were just ordinary corpses at this point.
Tang Yu's face lit up with joy. Needless to say, it was Jin Ye who fired the gun.
She seized the opportunity, ready to use Team Leader Liang as leverage for an emergency escape. However, the next second, her grip in the air found nothing.
Team Leader Liang vanished into thin air.
Before Tang Yu could react, Team Leader Liang's figure appeared behind her, his hand firmly around her neck.
"Fire!" Team Leader Liang ordered his subordinates.
Tang Yu widened her eyes, not caring to investigate the reason, and swiftly twisted her body, causing Team Leader Liang to tilt slightly.
The guard across from them hesitated, worried about accidentally injuring Team Leader Liang, and his finger wavered on the trigger. In that moment, Tang Yu thrust her knife diagonally backward, stabbing into Team Leader Liang's body.
This stab was fast and deep. Tang Yu quickly pulled out the knife and escaped from his grasp during the moment he released his grip in pain.
Despite the continuous sound of Jin Ye's gunfire, with the distraction provided by her teammates, Tang Yu struck Team Leader Liang twice more before reaching out and grabbing his wound.
Seeing Team Leader Liang fall to the ground, Tang Yu didn't bother confirming his condition. She glanced at Song Lengzhu and quickly sprinted towards Jin Ye's direction.
Song Lengzhu also fired a few shots, but not as ruthlessly as before. She watched Tang Yu's fleeing figure and her eyes revealed a sense of curiosity.
Just as Tang Yu reached the last bungalow, Jin Ye pulled her into a dark corridor. Jin Ye signaled for Tang Yu to remain silent and then pointed to a door ahead.
Tang Yu cautiously peeked out through the window and saw four or five people detained inside, both men and women, with a little girl with blonde hair huddled in the corner.
But it wasn't just prisoners here, Zhou Zhou and a guard were also present. The guard held a small knife and a strange chip, seemingly performing implants on the captives, oblivious to the commotion outside the window.
Jin Ye's expression became urgent. The guards outside had already surrounded them. Logically speaking, in their current situation, they didn't have time to unlock and save people. They should immediately leave the camp and escape as far as possible.
But since they had already found the targets for rescue, there was no reason to give up.
Tang Yu made up her mind and cut the iron cable hanging on the door with one stroke, saying, "You save the people, I'll clear the way."
The guards and Zhou Zhou in the room were startled. They had heard the commotion earlier, but what they were doing at the moment was also crucial, and they couldn't leave the room.
And at this moment, the culprit who caused the commotion came to their door.
The experienced guard was about to contact his comrades when Tang Yu swiftly slit his throat. Tang Yu grabbed his body and left a few dark bloodstains.
In an instant, blackness crept up the guard's neck.
Zhou Zhou's face changed, but she managed to remain calm and said, "Don't kill me, I'm just a worker." After speaking, she ran to a corner, far away from Tang Yu.
Tang Yu noticed that she ran very quickly. It would take some effort to kill her, and time was running out. Jin Ye had already picked up the little girl from the corner and signaled for Tang Yu to leave quickly.
Tang Yu glanced at Zhou Zhou, decisively giving up on pursuing her. They rushed out of the room, and the guards outside had already found their location. The leading guard shouted, "They're here!" and raised his gun to shoot.
However, a dark figure suddenly pounced on him. Tang Yu saw that it was Team Leader Liang, now turned into a zombie, as he mindlessly devoured the guard's flesh.
It seemed that Team Leader Liang had chosen not to stay in the game, and his body had become a zombie NPC.
The bitten guard also showed signs of turning into a zombie. He clumsily got up and stumbled towards the others. In addition, the guard who was guarding the captives had also turned into a zombie due to Tang Yu's actions. The camp became chaotic in an instant.
This unexpected turn of events inadvertently bought Tang Yu and Jin Ye some time to escape. They quickly left from the other side, circled around the bungalows, and ran straight towards the main gate.
As they passed by the row of bungalows in the middle, Tang Yu saw Brother Li collapsed on the ground. She felt annoyed at the sight of him and gave him a kick without hesitation before continuing on her way.
There were two guards standing at the entrance of the camp, prepared and waiting. Jin Ye freed one hand and fired two shots, dealing with this trouble.
When they rushed out of the camp, Tang Yu glanced back and saw Shen Xu's gloomy face as he caught up with them. As for Song Lengzhu, she was simply watching Tang Yu from a distance.
Their eyes met for a brief moment.
Tang Yu let out a sigh and shivered, feeling goosebumps all over her body. That gaze, to her, was like the devil's stare.
She pulled out the hidden backpack from the bushes and followed Jin Ye in a brisk jog, traveling through the night to distance themselves from the camp.
The three of them almost climbed over an entire mountain until they reached an unfamiliar village, where they finally stopped.
Tang Yu was feeling a bit exhausted. She had just entered the game not long ago, and this unenhanced body couldn't withstand such hardships.
She looked ahead at the village and stopped in front of a camphor tree, sitting down on the ground.
The little girl looked at Tang Yu timidly. She hadn't said much along the way and still held some fear towards Jin Ye, who had turned into a zombie.
This was normal. Anyone would find it strange to be saved by a zombie!
However, neither of them showed any signs of aggression, which reassured the little girl.
"Her name is Xiaoli, just call her Xiaoli." Jin Ye introduced to Tang Yu while sitting down on the ground.
Tang Yu could tell that Xiaoli was a shy and timid girl, with even lower stamina than her initial stamina value. It was strange that a player like her could survive until now.
"You risked your life to save her, but it seems like she's afraid of you. Should I turn her into a zombie too?" Tang Yu teased Jin Ye, showing her teeth playfully.
"If you dare to bite her, I'll tear your mouth apart." Jin Ye calmly replied. "She probably wouldn't choose to become a zombie, and besides, she can't die."
"Why?"
"Do you know about the special abilities in the game?"
"I don't know." Tang Yu answered, then suddenly realized something, having an epiphany. "So that's why Team Leader Liang was able to escape my control. It's teleportation?"
"Probably." Jin Ye responded, patting the empty space next to her, gesturing for Xiaoli to sit and rest.
Xiaoli obediently sat down next to Jin Ye, and only then did Jin Ye speak slowly.
"Xiaoli's ability is resurrection."
