CHAPTER 38

When it came to medicine, He Ran knew that she might be asking for the impossible. However, considering the dire condition of the supply officer in her arms and how she had been tossed around, the fact that she had only just started running a fever made her a relatively easy patient to handle.

Li Haohao 1 didn't say anything, while Li Haohao 2 glanced at her and licked her lips, saying, "Not possible right now. We don't have any extra medicine. I'll figure something out, but you have to come with us first."

Li Haohao 1 and Li Haohao 2 peeked their heads out, leading He Ran while evading the gaze of the camera person. Inside the breeding center, there were always camera people walking in the corridors. Occasionally, they would stand still because there was no one moving outside.

During mealtime, the number of camera people increased. Li Haohao 1 and Li Haohao 2 led He Ran to several different rooms, feeling a bit troubled by He Ran's height.

Although they didn't have any bead strings on their hands or pretty hair, their appearances resembled Li Haohao. The camera people only gave them a rough glance, making it easy for them to pass unnoticed. Some of the Li Haohao women had scabies on their heads and had to shave their hair, so their bald heads weren't conspicuous, but the extra height was hard to disguise.

So they changed direction with He Ran and eventually brought her to an empty room.

There was a sign hanging at the entrance of the room, with the words"Night of Wild Dance" written on it. They pushed He Ran into the room and told her to wait there, waiting for their message. If they were allowed to obtain medicine, they would find a way to contact her.

In the past, it was always He Ran ordering Li Haohao to stay put and not cause trouble. It was the first time she was commanded by Li Haohao not to move. Li Haohao closed the door, turned around, and vigilantly surveyed the surroundings. With no camera people present, the room had been emptied, with only a hard bunk bed remaining. The bedding on the bed seemed to have been taken away, but some fuzz could be seen on the wooden boards. Next to the bed was a small toilet. She lifted the lid of the toilet tank and found water inside, carefully restoring it to its original state.

There was a ventilation vent on the ceiling, but it had been sealed with steel bars. There was nothing under the bed, so she flipped over the bed board and examined it. It was hard to discern with the naked eye, but with the assistance of her fingertips, she could make out writing on the wooden board.

She quickly stopped touching it. Every word she touched hurt, as if it were engraved in her heart, causing her pain as well.

Restoring everything to its original state, she sat down and waited, keeping an eye on her surroundings. She picked up a few strands of hair from the ground, rolled them into a circle, and put them in her pocket.

Night of Wild Dance, Night of Youth, Night of Cuteness. He Ran thought of these words, feeling something burning within her. There were many questions as well. If this was something Li Haohao wanted her to know within this area, how should she respond to satisfy Li Haohao? Would Li Haohao even see her response?

He Ran didn't know any of these things.

Just like when did the war start and why it started, many questions are unanswerable. Digging to the root of the problem will not lead to a good outcome.

She only hoped to send the supply officer out, but she didn't know how to do it. The only thing she could do was to maintain normalcy as usual.

After a long time, she suddenly heard the sound of flushing from the toilet. She stood up, opened the toilet tank, and saw the water level going down.

She cautiously reached into the toilet, feeling something inside.

She reached further and further inside, using her fingertips to retrieve something difficultly. It was a plastic bag. She wiped the water off the plastic bag with her pants, opened it, and found two capsules and a piece of paper inside.

The handwriting on the paper was neat: Anti-inflammatory, antipyretic. Go to the dining hall when the bell rings.

Looking around, she could only use toilet water to feed the two capsules to Chen Xi.

She closed her eyes and rested, listening attentively.

Not long after, ding-dong, ding-dong...

She didn't know what this bell sound was. She opened the door, and there was a camera person facing her. Even though it was just a cold camera, she felt that the person on the other side was as stunned as she was.

Bang.

She grabbed the camera person by the neck and pulled them into the room, smashing their camera on the ground.

In the circular corridor, there were about six to eight camera people patrolling. After some thought, He Ran couldn't find a way to disguise herself as a camera person. She couldn't be sure how much she had been consumed now and whether she could maintain her normal identity.

So she decided to wait for an opportunity. In the moment when a camera person approached, she would drag them in and k!ll them. After hunting down two of them, the remaining camera people seemed to be unaware, but the intervals between patrols became longer, and she quietly slipped out.

On the way, she saw the rough arrangement of the rooms in the corridor. The circular corridor had multiple layers, and she remembered the route to the dining hall. The Li Haohao women had two meals a day, one in the evening and one at night. After the bell rang, it was time for sleep after the meal.

The dining hall was like a university cafeteria before the war, and it resembled cubicles for work. It was divided by fences, and from above, it looked like a maze. He Ran walked in like a small ball, finding the main route before getting lost and continued walking along this path.

Halfway through, she suddenly heard footsteps behind her. She turned around and saw two camera people looking at her.

In an instant, two more people came running from behind them, making it four people.

He Ran paused for a moment, drew out her dagger.

These six security camera people don't have guns. She had to take care of them before they went out to report.

She placed Xiang Chenxi on the nearby table and took a deep breath.

Having entered the cafeteria, she didn't know which way to go next. If she escaped, she wouldn't fulfill the command on the note.

She counted them. The camera people were thinner and weaker than she had imagined. They were desperately pressing something in their hands. After they all died, He Ran rummaged through the corpses and found a button in one of their hands.

She touched the button and turned around, closing the door to the dining hall.

When she picked up Xiang Chenxi, her legs trembled for a moment. She leaned against the table to stand up. Her back had been struck several times with a chain by the camera people, and her ankle was also extremely painful. If only she hadn't been wearing boots.

She took out the note and looked at it again. He Ran felt like she had arrived late.

She didn't know who gave her the note and the medication, but she chose to trust any form of Li Haohao. She found a corner and sat down, leaning against a dining chair with difficulty. She casually wiped the bl*od from her head and lowered her eyes, waiting.

Not long after, it seemed like someone was knocking on the water pipes. The sound of knocking echoed from all directions. She listened attentively but couldn't determine the source.

The sound stopped quickly, and soon, there was a sound coming from behind one of the chairs in the dining hall. But it wasn't just one person there. Several similar voices were arguing about something.

The argument was interrupted by a very crisp voice.

"That's enough."

Among the many voices of Li Haohao, there was one voice that was completely different from the others. It had a brighter tone and a strong presence.

It was the same person He Ran had seen at the beginning.

Sure enough.

She saw a girl walking out from behind one of the chairs, her long hair as smooth as satin.

She approached He Ran, threw the medicine on the table, crossed her arms, lifted her chin, and looked down on this sudden appearance of the outpost woman. She took a breath and said, "You have the ability, and you've proven your position... I don't care who you are, but if you help me, I'll reward you."

He Ran nodded, "Okay."

She gazed at the young Miss, observing her up close. This one also resembled Li Haohao, but it was only now that she realized this young Miss was slightly taller than the other Li Haohaos.

The faces of multiple Li Haohaos merged into one, making it difficult for her to maintain composure. Li Haohao seemed like an illusion, as if she had never found that girl in the wilderness.

Was that young girl the only one left among these people? Where was her own Li Haohao?

She touched the medicine and took a look. It turned out to be a conveniently packaged syringe. She looked at the young Miss, unable to find the right words to ask. When she tried to speak again, she only tasted a hint of sweetness mixed with saltiness.

She wiped her face, diluting the bl*od that hadn't been fully cleaned with tears.

The young Miss felt a bit uncomfortable under her gaze and sat across from her. "I have a route. Every day, I wander around in all directions with my camera... Anyway, I found a way to escape from here. Only a few people have taken it before and haven't been caught and brought back. I think it's time to send the others away, but most of them don't have combat ability. I need someone like you. You just proved that you're reliable."

"Those... camera... those administrators, did you arrange them?"

"No, I just know their schedule."

The young Miss raised her foot, placed her hands on her knees, and sat up straight. He Ran asked, "I have a question."

"Yes."

"What are the Silencers?"

"They are the ones who eat them."

"The Silencers won't treat you as food and eat you?"

The young Miss lifted her head and smiled. "Why would they? I am the daughter of the Governor."

"Aren't the Governor and the Silencers working together?"

"Explanations can wait until we're out. I need to leave for a while. Before that, there's a stretch of road. You need to escort them..."

The young Miss elegantly adjusted her skirt as she stood up. She was not any of the Li Haohao's that could be played. This girl possessed the composure and certainty of a natural ruler, but every piece of food had her face.

He Ran grabbed her wrist, startling the young Miss, who tried to break free.

However, the cold, mentally deteriorating woman firmly held onto the girl, pulling her towards her. She measured the young Miss's wrist with her fingers, as if confirming something. She half-squatted and felt her ankle, bl*od flowing out from her hair, smearing eyes and running down her nose. Some of the bl*odstains on her face had already dried.

"Li Haohao."

"Li Haohao is... Oh, I see." The young Miss quickly withdrew her foot, showing strong aversion to the touch of this dirty woman. She stepped several steps back and pointed at her, speaking with great certainty, "You watched the livestream of one of them and named that girl Li Haohao, right? I can't control your peculiar interests, but that girl most likely died a long time ago. They were bred to be eaten. You can consume them, but... don't treat them as—"

The latter part of the sentence was faint, and He Ran couldn't hear it clearly. The young Miss still exuded a repulsive arrogance, what did she mean by "can consume"? For eating? Bred? How did she view these girls who looked just like her?

He Ran suddenly stood up. Livestream? What livestream? She didn't understand, but she wouldn't allow Li Haohao to utter such words.

"Li Haohao, don't say such things. I can't distinguish which one is you... or maybe you're not here. I don't have any unspeakable interests, but—"

"I'll trouble you for a moment."

The young Miss still maintained control of the situation, even when confronted by this fierce and taller woman. She simply tapped her with a finger, giving a command.

He Ran swallowed back her words. The dominant and unfamiliar young Miss in front of her was different from the Li Haohao she knew, but inexplicably, she felt the unreasonable and self-evident arrogance of Li Haohao from her.

"Alright."

"On the way, prioritize the majority of the people. If necessary, sacrifice and losses are acceptable."

The young Miss strutted out of the cafeteria, and behind the table, faces of various Li Haohaos emerged.

He Ran injected the syringe into the supply officer and carried her on her back.

"Let's go."
