CHAPTER 2

The body in her arms was scorching hot. Ye Chengxing, a doctor herself, immediately deduced from various signs that Li Jia was running a fever.

As she recalled, she remembered some details she had previously overlooked.

Li Jia's fever didn't seem accidental, it was intentional. The person who had left the room earlier had mentioned it in their conversation, with a nostalgic tone: "A person with a fever feels completely different in bed."

With this in mind, Ye Chengxing understood the cause and effect, and couldn't help but curse under her breath.

Ye Chengxing didn't react much to the bite. She held Li Jia steady and left the room, softly comforting her by speaking into her ear repeatedly, "Li Jia, don't be afraid. I won't do anything to you. We'll go to the hospital right away..."

Honestly speaking, the bite was a bit painful, but compared to that pain, her heart ached and pitied Li Jia even more.

Upon hearing the driver pronounce her surname, Ye Chengxing's eyebrows twitched involuntarily. In an instant, she seemed to have found the reason why those cars had clearly seen her hailing a cab but didn't dare to stop, even though there were no other passengers on board.

"No need to change." Ye Chengxing replied succinctly.

It was already so difficult to hail a cab, and this one had stopped without the driver clearly recognizing her. If she let this one go, she couldn't possibly carry Li Jia all the way to the hospital, even if she could walk. Li Jia couldn't afford to wait any longer.

The driver, upon hearing her response, appeared on the verge of tears. In the end, he gritted his teeth and reluctantly agreed.

Although Ye Chengxing had already guessed the reason to some extent, she still spoke up, "Are you afraid of me?"

She refrained from further inquiries, and the driver seemed to breathe a sigh of relief as the car fell into silence.

However, Li Jia began to fidget.

In fact, her emotions had already stabilized and she had relaxed in Ye Chengxing's embrace after leaving the gathering. But now, she seemed to be getting warm and started moving restlessly.

Li Jia was still wearing only that thin layer of fabric, as she hadn't had a chance to change, and Ye Chengxing's coat was still covering her. However, the Omega kept trying to open the coat and even attempted to remove the thin layer of fabric from her own body.

Ye Chengxing pressed down on Li Jia's wrist, finally calming the Omega down. Hearing her soothing voice, Li Jia opened her eyes and looked at Ye Chengxing. She had broken into a light sweat, and a few strands of hair fell onto her lips.

Li Jia's gaze towards Ye Chengxing was filled with a complex mix of emotions. Ye Chengxing met her gaze and scanned Omega's cheeks. She paused for a moment and raised her hand.

But the expected action and scene did not occur. Ye Chengxing simply lifted her hand and gently tucked the strand of hair from Li Jia's lips behind her ear. Her voice was soft, carrying a hint of tenderness and encouragement. "Li Jia, don't be afraid. We're already out now. Once we reach the hospital, you'll get better. Just hold on a little longer, okay?"

Their current position was somewhat ambiguous. The backseat of the taxi was not particularly spacious, and they were not sitting side by side but rather one sitting in the other's embrace.

The scenery outside the car window rapidly retreated, with the warm yellow light from the street lamps occasionally shining in.

In the midst of this close gaze, Ye Chengxing noticed that Li Jia's eyelashes were long and thick, complemented by the reddish corners of her eyes, making her look like a rabbit spirit with reddened eyes.

Unable to resist, Ye Chengxing raised her hand and gently rubbed the other's long hair.

Caught off guard by the sudden touch on her head, Li Jia seemed stunned for a second, but quickly regained her composure. Her gaze became focused, and her lips moved as if she wanted to say something threatening. However, just as she was about to speak, her body went limp and she fell into Ye Chengxing's embrace.

Looking at Li Jia's closed eyes, Ye Chengxing reached out and touched her forehead. As expected, it was even hotter than before.

She hugged her tightly and couldn't help but speak to the driver with a hint of anxiety in her voice, "Driver, could you please drive a bit faster?"
